When the air turns crisp and the leaves start to crunch under your feet, it’s officially boot season. Whether you’re out walking your dog, heading into the city, or escaping for a weekend in the woods, a good pair of boots can make all the difference. So what’s the problem? Unfortunately, most conventional boots are made from leather or synthetic materials that aren’t exactly planet-friendly.

But there are plenty of brands making durable, stylish, and ethical alternatives – using vegan leather, recycled soles, and plant-based materials that still look and feel amazing.

Here are a few of my favorites for fall and winter:

1. Will’s Vegan Store

Will’s has been setting the standard for vegan footwear for years. Their Vegan Dock Boots and Waterproof Chelsea Boots are made from bio-based Italian vegan leather (derived from plants and organic crops) and produced under ethical conditions in Portugal. The soles are durable and grippy, perfect for wet fall walks.

Price range: €130–€180

🌍 Ships worldwide from the UK and EU

2. Nae Vegan Shoes

Nae (which stands for No Animal Exploitation) uses innovative materials like AppleSkin (made from apple-juice industry waste), corn-based bio-microfiber, cork, recycled PET, and Piñatex (pineapple-leaf fiber). For example, they offer a few Chelsea-style options such as the Faber boot, a lightweight vegan suede boot lined with breathable BioEco microfiber and finished with a non-slip sole for everyday wear.

Price range: €120–€170

🌍 Ships worldwide from Portugal

3. Bhava Studio

This NYC-based brand makes some of the most beautiful and well-made vegan boots out there, in classy city-ready styles that don’t compromise on ethics or comfort. Their Aspen Hiker Boot is made with organic cotton linings, eco-friendly microfibers, and recycled components, and they even have repairable soles to extend the life of each pair.

Price range: $250–$350

🌍 Ships internationally from the US

4. Matt & Nat

Best known for their handbags, Matt & Nat also make great vegan boots using recycled materials (like old windshield glass resin and plastic bottles). Their Chelsea Boot is a timeless, easy-to-style staple available in soft neutrals as well as bolder seasonal colors, making it a solid pick whether you like to keep things classic or add a pop of personality.

Price range: $140–$180

🌍 Global shipping from Canada

5. Native Shoes

Native Shoes is one of those fun, low-key sustainable brands that keeps things light… literally. If you live somewhere rainy, their Chamonix Boot is waterproof, lightweight, and made from recycled Ethylene-Vinyl Acetate (EVA). Their Remix Project also lets you send your old shoes back to be recycled into playground flooring – seriously cool!

Price range: $110–$180

🌍 North America-based, with international shipping available

6. Bohema

Bohema is a small Polish brand making handcrafted vegan boots using some of the coolest plant-based materials out there, like cactus leather (Desserto), grape leather (Vegea), apple leather, and pineapple fiber (Piñatex). Their designs have a modern feel while still being practical for everyday wear. The Squared Chelsea Boot and their Tiger Chelsea Boot are especially great for fall if you want something eye-catching but still minimal enough to wear often. Everything is made in small batches in Poland, and the brand uses a low-waste, ethically produced model from start to finish.

Price range: €150–€250

🌍 Ships worldwide from Poland

7. Blundstone

Blundstone has been making boots for over 150 years, combining durability, comfort, and timeless design. Their first certified vegan boot, the 2115 model, is made from 100% microfiber and keeps the classic Blundstone shape that’s been worn by workers, adventurers, and creatives alike. These botots are rugged yet versatile, built for everyday wear and long-lasting performance.

Price range: $180–$200

🌍 Ships globally; based in Tasmania, Australia

8. Ahimsa

Ahimsa is a fully vegan footwear brand based in Brazil, known for prioritizing fair labor and high-quality materials. Their Everyday Boot is handmade using vegan leather and a cork–biolatex insole, offering a simple, versatile style that works for daily wear while avoiding animal materials – though it’s worth noting that it does still rely on polyester-based vegan leather.

Price range: $150–$190

🌍 Ships internationally, some styles available through select retailers worldwide

Fall boots don’t have to come at the expense of animals or the planet. Whether you prefer something sleek and urban or cozy and weatherproof, there’s now a sustainable option for just about every style and occasion.

If your current boots still have life left in them, it’s always best to repair or re-sole before buying new. But if you’re ready for an upgrade, these brands prove that warmth, comfort, and ethics can go hand in hand.
