Summer is coming up quickly, which means I’m already planning weekend hikes, mountain trails, alpine lakes, and which snacks to bring.
If you’re anything like me and love spending your weekends outside, a good hiking backpack honestly makes SUCH a difference. Whether you’re doing a short day hike, trail running, hut-to-hut trekking, or a multi-day mountain adventure, the right pack can completely change how comfortable the experience feels.
And thankfully, there are now quite a few outdoor brands making backpacks with recycled materials, lower-impact manufacturing, repair programs, and designs actually built to last for years instead of falling apart after one season.
One thing I’ve learned over time: the “best” hiking backpack really depends on what kind of hiking you actually do.

If you hike in warm weather, hydration compatibility is also HUGE. I personally love packs with built-in water reservoir sleeves or easy-access bottle pockets because stopping every five minutes to dig around for water gets old very quickly.

The Tempest/Talon 22L series is AMAZING for day hikes and fast-moving adventures, while the Atmos AG 65L has basically become legendary among long-distance backpackers.

Fantastic for alpine hiking
Deuter is especially popular in Europe and among mountain hikers. Their packs tend to distribute weight really well, which matters SO much on longer climbs or full-day hikes.

Honestly, investing in a good hiking backpack is one of those things that’s completely worth it if you spend a lot of time outside. A comfortable pack can genuinely make hiking more enjoyable – especially in summer when you’re carrying extra water, layers, snacks, sunscreen, and probably far too many “just in case” items like I always do.
